Our Front Porch Story
Every Trail Begins Somewhere
Long before a home is built, before a fence is raised, or before a porch light welcomes someone home at the end of the day, there is land. Land that has weathered storms, witnessed generations, and quietly waited for its next chapter to begin. Every property carries a story, and I’ve always believed the privilege of this work isn’t simply helping people buy or sell real estate. It’s helping them find the place where their own story can unfold.
My name is Jonathan Price, though most clients know me simply as Mr. Price. Colorado has never just been where my family lived; it has shaped who we are. On my mother’s side, the Folsom family roots run deep in this state through land ownership, horses, hard work, and a respect for the land that was earned one season at a time. Our family history in Colorado began in Durango in 1871, where hard work and grit helped shape that legacy. Though that may be impressive, it has always been the quieter inheritance that meant more to me: integrity, stewardship, perseverance, and keeping your word.
As a boy, I didn’t realize how special those roots were. It was simply life. Some of my favorite memories were spent with my grandpa, out with the horses. I loved being around them: the smell of the leather, the sound of hooves on the ground, and the feeling that every trail disappearing over the next hill was leading somewhere worth discovering. Looking back, those days taught me more than I realized. They taught me to slow down, to appreciate the land, and to understand that some of life’s greatest moments happen in the quiet, not the hurried.
Like so many kids, I had heroes. I must have watched The Man from Snowy River more times than I can count. I was convinced I was Jim Craig. I dreamed that one day I’d have a ranch of my own, saddle up my horse, and spend my days exploring the mountains, valleys, forests, and open country of Colorado. To me, every trail held another adventure, every mountain hid something waiting to be discovered, and every sunrise felt like an invitation to see what was beyond the next ridge. It wasn’t just a dream of owning land. It was a dream of freedom, wonder, and living a life connected to something bigger than myself.
Life has a way of taking us on roads we never expected, and while my journey didn’t unfold exactly the way that little boy imagined, I never lost the wonder he carried with him. Those childhood dreams grew into something deeper. They became a love for Colorado, a respect for the people who care for its land, and an appreciation for the stories that every home, ranch, and piece of property holds.
Today, when I walk a property, I don’t just see square footage or acreage. I imagine children chasing each other across a backyard, horses grazing in a pasture as the sun rises, families gathering around a dinner table after a long day, and friends sitting on a porch as the mountains turn gold in the evening light. I see possibility. I see memories waiting to be made. I see the beginning of someone else’s story.
That’s why I created Black Saddle Land & Homes.
A good saddle was never prized because it was flashy. It was valued because it could be trusted. It carried its rider through long days, uncertain weather, difficult country, and countless miles home. It became part of the journey without ever demanding attention. That’s the kind of company I wanted to build. Not the loudest or the busiest, but one people know they can trust when one of life’s biggest decisions is in front of them.
Buying or selling property is more than a transaction. It’s a turning point. It deserves someone who will listen before speaking, ask thoughtful questions, and help you see possibilities you may not have considered. Sometimes the right decision is moving forward. Sometimes it’s waiting. Sometimes it’s walking away. My responsibility isn’t to convince you to buy or sell. It’s to help you make a decision you’ll feel confident about for years to come.
Homes will change. Families will grow. Land will pass from one generation to the next. Long after the paperwork has been filed away, what people remember is how they were treated. That’s the business I hope to build: one rooted in honesty, meaningful relationships, and a genuine respect for both the land and the people who call it home.
Pull Up a Chair
Whether you’re searching for your first home, a horse property, a ranch, or simply a place where your family’s next chapter can begin, I’d be honored to walk that journey with you.
The best conversations rarely begin across a conference table. They begin on a front porch, over a cup of coffee, watching the sun settle behind the mountains.
Pull up a chair. I’d love to hear your story.
